Research Terms
Last updated: 15 October 2026
These terms explain how Who Am I Really? approaches family-history research. The website is an invitation to enquire, not an online checkout or a binding offer to provide research.
Enquiries, quotes and payment
Sending an enquiry is free and creates no obligation to purchase. We review your request, discuss what records may be available and confirm in writing the agreed ancestral line, number of generations to investigate, deliverables, estimated timescale, total price and payment method. We do not take payment through this website. Work will not begin until you have accepted the written proposal and any applicable cancellation information has been provided.
Indicative packages
Website prices are introductory guide prices for one agreed ancestral line: Family Origins £99 (up to three generations), Family Discovery £199 (up to four), and Family Heritage £299 (up to five). Complex or cross-border research may require a different quotation. No additional archive, certificate or third-party costs will be incurred without your approval.
Research results
Research depends on the availability, accuracy and accessibility of historical records. We cannot guarantee that any particular ancestor, relationship, location or generation will be established. We will distinguish documented findings from reasonable possibilities and unresolved questions. Any report and family tree are supplied for personal research use, not as legal proof of ancestry, citizenship, inheritance or identity.
Your responsibilities
Please provide information you are entitled to share, check the accuracy of details you supply and avoid sharing unnecessary sensitive information about living people. We may refuse or limit requests that would intrude on living individuals' privacy.
Cancellation and consumer rights
Where you buy as a consumer at a distance, you will generally have a 14-day statutory cancellation period starting the day after the service contract is made. If you ask us to start work during that period, we will obtain your express request first; if you then cancel, you may have to pay a proportionate amount for work already provided. If the service is fully performed during that period, the cancellation right may be lost only where the legal conditions and acknowledgements are met. Your statutory rights are not affected. We will provide the relevant cancellation instructions before accepting payment.
Questions or concerns
If you have a concern about a commissioned service, please contact bartons05@outlook.com so we can try to resolve it. Nothing in these terms excludes rights that cannot legally be excluded.
